Square Stand Intermittent Card Reader Detection Issue – Requires iPad Reinsert to Restore Functionality

Hello Square Support,

I am using Square Stand with my custom POS system (not Square’s own software) and integrating it with SquareMobilePaymentsSDK. I have encountered an issue where the Stand sometimes fails to recognize the card reader or tap-to-pay when I enter the payment screen.

:small_blue_diamond: Issue Description:

• Normally, the Square Stand functions correctly, and the card reader (tap or swipe) works as expected.

• However, occasionally, when I go to the payment screen, the white LED light on the Square Stand does not turn on, and the system does not detect the reader.

The way to fix this is to physically remove the iPad from the Square Stand and reinsert it. Once reinserted, the white LED turns on, and everything works again.

:small_blue_diamond: Questions:

  1. Is this issue related to software (SDK ), or is it a hardware connection problem?

  2. If it is a software issue, where can I find relevant documentation or debugging information to diagnose it?

  3. Are there any specific API calls or error logs that I should check to determine why the Stand stops detecting the card reader?

  4. If it is a hardware issue, what are the recommended troubleshooting steps to ensure a stable connection between the iPad and Square Stand?

Thank you for your support!

If it’s a hardware issue have you looked at the connection of the iPad and Stand to make sure it’s clean?

As for SDK troubleshooting are you logging readers states when this happens?

HI,

Yes, i did check the port make sure its clean,

i found that when the connection beweet ipad and KIOSK CASE lost, i can simplely unplug the power source for the KIOSK , and the white Light start turning on ,and the connection recovered. what do you think about it ,and what do you think might be case this ?
