Hi Square Developer Support,
Square phone support directed me here for help with an existing Square Developer application. I have three related issues I need assistance with.
1. Unable to access the Developer Forum from my existing Developer account
I can successfully log into the Square Developer Console with the account that owns my existing application. However, when I try to log into the Square Developer Forum using that same account/email, the verification/login email never arrives.
I spent approximately 20 minutes on the phone with Square Support trying to resolve this. Since I could access the Developer Console but could not receive the email needed to access the forum, I was ultimately advised to create/use another account so I could post my issue here.
Therefore, the account I’m posting from is not the account that owns the existing Developer application.
I would also like help resolving this login issue so I can access the forum normally from my original Developer account.
2. External developer needs Sandbox/Developer Console access
I have hired an external developer who needs access to the existing application’s Square Sandbox, Developer Console, API tools/logs and webhooks for development and testing.
When I select Developer Console → Manage Team, I’m redirected to the normal Square Team Members area. The only permission sets available to me are restaurant employee roles such as Cashier, Server, Bartender and Kitchen Staff.
I cannot find an option to create or assign a Developer-specific permission set.
What is the correct way to give an external developer the necessary Developer Console/Sandbox access without making them a restaurant employee or unnecessarily giving them access to production credentials?
This is my most time-sensitive issue because the developer is beginning work now and will need Sandbox access for end-to-end testing.
3. Existing Developer application ownership/account structure
The existing Developer application was originally created under a restaurant’s Square account. The application uses OAuth and Square application fees to collect a platform commission.
I also have a separate Square account intended to represent the actual platform/developer business.
Is it possible to transfer the existing Developer application to the separate platform account/organization?
If so, I need to understand whether the existing Application ID, OAuth authorizations/tokens, webhooks, Sandbox/Production configuration and application-fee functionality can remain intact.
I specifically want to avoid interrupting the existing integration, live payment processing, OAuth connections, or application-fee collection.
If transferring the existing application isn’t recommended, what account/application structure does Square recommend for a platform that connects restaurant merchant accounts through OAuth and collects application fees?
I can provide the relevant account and application identifiers privately to Square staff for verification. I will not post access tokens, application secrets, OAuth tokens or other credentials publicly.
My priorities are:
- Get my external developer proper Sandbox/Developer Console access.
- Restore Developer Forum access for the original account that owns the application.
- Determine the correct application ownership structure without disrupting the existing integration.
Thank you. Any guidance from someone familiar with Developer permissions, OAuth, application fees and application ownership would be appreciated.
