Evidence submitted via Disputes API (state PROCESSING) but Seller Dashboard still shows "Needs response"

We submitted evidence for a production dispute through the Disputes API and Square’s API confirms it, but the Seller Dashboard has not moved the dispute out of “Needs response”.

**Dispute:** yFFPquArdC7mHirVps4KdC (production, location EYB9QX65NR7GG, $115.00, reason NO_KNOWLEDGE, due 2026-10-05)

**What we did (all visible in API Logs, 2026-09-28, UTC):**
16:11:44 and 16:11:46 — POST /v2/disputes/{id}/evidence-text → 200

  • 16:11:50 — POST /v2/disputes/{id}/evidence-files → 201
  • 16:11:51 — POST /v2/disputes/{id}/submit-evidence → 200, dispute state PROCESSING

**What the API says now.** RetrieveDispute returns "state": "PROCESSING", "updated_at": "2026-09-28T16:11:51.025Z", version 5.

**What the Seller Dashboard says.** Hours later the dispute is still listed under “Needs response” with the “Challenge dispute” and “Accept dispute” buttons active and a countdown to Oct 5. The Documents section shows only the payment receipt, which we understand is expected after an API submission.

Two questions:

  1. Can you confirm the evidence submitted at 16:11:51 UTC was forwarded to the issuing bank?
  2. Should the Seller Dashboard reflect PROCESSING as “In review” after an API submission, and if so can the status be corrected?

We have not taken any action in the Dashboard and will not, to avoid a second submission.

This is expected. API-submitted evidence and the resulting state change are not synced back to the Dashboard which will continue to show “Needs response” even though the dispute is already under review. You can find the below excerpt from here: Process Disputes

  • When sellers use your application to upload and submit evidence with the Disputes API, they can no longer take action on the dispute using the Square Dashboard. The evidence and dispute status aren’t updated in the Square Dashboard. Your application should provide sellers with timely information about their disputes so they can make the most appropriate decision regarding the dispute.

I can also confirm that SubmitEvidence returning HTTP 200 with state PROCESSING is the API’s confirmation that evidence was accepted and forwarded to the issuing bank.
