Unpaid dine-in QR orders not showing on Square Restaurant POS

Hi,

We’re building a dine-in QR ordering app where guests order from our customer app, and restaurant staff use Square for Restaurants POS.

What we want:

  • Guest places an unpaid order in our app
  • Staff can see that order on Square POS
  • Staff can edit, cancel, and take payment for it on Square POS

Right now, unpaid Orders API orders do not appear on Restaurant POS / Dashboard, so staff cannot manage or take payment for them there. We also couldn’t find an API for floor plan / tables / seats.

Is this still the current limitation? If yes, is there any recommended workaround for this dine-in QR + Square Restaurant POS workflow?

Hi @Gobeeshan - yes, this is still a limitation of the platform. Also, there is no API for floor plans or tables.

You could either use Terminal API to trigger the checkout flow, which would initiate payment and make the order visible in POS, or have the customer pay at the table via your configured app in order for it to appear in the POS.
