Feature request: Estimates API (create and convert estimates programmatically)

Hello Square team,

We’re Beejays Tile & More, a general contractor and Square seller (account [email protected]). We send estimates to clients and convert accepted estimates to invoices, and we’d like to do that through the API and connected tools instead of only by hand in the Dashboard or mobile app.

Per the Invoices API overview (API version 2026-09-16), estimates can’t be created through the API. A Square staff reply on September 23, 2026 in the “Estimates API: the one gap in our Invoices API workflow” thread said there is no timeline. The suggested workaround of modeling the estimate with the Orders API and creating the invoice after approval doesn’t give us a native estimate or estimate status tracking.

Could you reply with any timeline, beta or early access program, or recommended workaround for creating estimates and converting accepted ones to invoices through the API? Thank you.

Hi @BEEJAYS,

I cannot provide a timeline, beta or early access program for the Estimates API.

The September 23 staff response remains the latest guidance I could confirm.

The public API does not currently support creating native Square estimates, tracking their estimate-specific statuses, or converting accepted native estimates into invoices.

The available workarounds are:

  • For an API-driven workflow: Create and manage the proposal and customer approval in your connected tool. Use the Orders API for the structured details, then create and publish an invoice through the Invoices API after approval. You’re correct that this does not create a native Square estimate or provide native estimate status tracking.
  • To keep native Square estimates: Continue creating them in Square Dashboard or the app. Square supports “Automatically convert estimate to invoice when customer accepts” for eligible subscriptions. This automates conversion, but not estimate creation, and it is not an API operation. See Create and send invoice estimates.
