I’ve built a newsletter sign up page for our website that takes an email and adds it as a customer and assigned that customer to the correct marketing group however the customer that i’ve created with my email has shows as

EMAIL STATUS
Non-subscribed
How do I allow my form/api to add the customers as marketing subscribers?

That field in the customer profile is for the Square marketing emails. Not any marketing that is configured by external applications. At this time that field is a read only field. If you’d like to have a subscribed true or false associated to a customer profile we recommend using Customers Custom Attributes.
