Request for Discount Codes API

Hi Square Developer team,

We’d like to request access to the Discount Codes API for our production Square application.

GetSetReply helps local restaurants bring customers back with coupons. Merchants connect their Square account through OAuth, and we give each opted-in customer a personal coupon (a signup offer, a “we miss you” offer, a bring-a-friend offer, and so on).

Today our codes live only in our system: staff look them up on a separate screen and then key the discount into Square by hand. If a customer types their code into Square POS, it is rejected. We’d like each coupon to be a Square coupon/discount code attached to their profile, so it redeems directly in the merchant’s existing Square POS workflow.

Our planned use:

  • One unique code per customer per offer, max_redemptions: 1, with an expires_at
  • Each code tied to a Catalog pricing rule (amount off, percent off, or a specific item)
  • Redeemed in person at Square POS (our first merchant uses Square for Restaurants)

A few questions to help us design this correctly:

  1. Can a code be issued to a specific Square customer, and if so, does it appear in the Coupons section of that customer’s profile in the Customer Directory?
  2. Is redemption supported in Square for Restaurants as well as Square POS?
  3. Is there a webhook when a code is redeemed, or should we poll the search endpoint?
