Payments FAILING - Wordpress/WooCommerce

Within the past 10 days, we started having daily failed payments. It is happening very frequently for both existing and also new customers.

On the surface, it may seem like it’s the customer doing something to cause the failed order, but I don’t believe it is. We’ve had customers contact their bank, but the bank says they never declined the order.

The errors we see are GENERIC DECLINE, INVALID CARD DATA, PAN FAILURE, etc.

One common thing we are noticing is some of the customers are attempting to save their card info to their account. But, we’re not certain this is the case every time.

Again, this issue is new for us and is happening daily, very frequently. (We’ve been using square for years and have never had this issue).

Our customers are getting upset. We are trying to understand why this is happening and find a solution.

We have debug enabled on the square plugin.

Any insight on this?

Have you asked the customer to reach out to their bank? Banks don’t always provide details as to why the payment was declined which is why they should contact their bank.

Hi! We’ll ask a few customers to try this again.

Regarding the issue with dialogue:
This has started happening more frequently in recent weeks. We’re seeing multiple orders fail back-to-back for different customers. One of the most common errors we’ve been receiving is INVALID_CARD_DATA, but every time, the customer insists they’re entering the correct information and can’t understand why the transaction isn’t going through. It’s the same story from many different people.

Interestingly, when we send those same customers a Square invoice for their order, the payment goes through successfully on the first attempt.

We’re seeing this happen for customers that are trying to create a monthly subscription and also for single orders.

It seems like there might be something else going on.

Have you also shared this with WooCommerce? They are the ones that built, developed, and maintain the code for the integration.

Same issue is happening on our Woocommerce site the past couple of days. Valid cards that are entered correctly are returning INVALID_CARD_DATA when the createCard endpoint is called.

Hi. Hit up Woo Support and tell them you’re having this issue. I chatted with an engineer two days ago and they are very interested in solving this issue. We tried a handful of things but were unsuccessful in resolving the issue at that time. We still have an open ticket and I was told they would get back to me with next steps in a day or two after they reviewed all the logs and discussed with their team.

Please let them know you are having the issue too. This is resulting in significant lost revenue.

Thank you and hopefully this gets resolved soon.

I already started the conversation last night and tried several things at their request, to no avail. It seems to only be impacting subscription products. Is this true for you as well?

What’s the location_id that your using and getting these errors? WooCommerce should be reaching out to us with there findings if they believe that the issue is in fact on our end to resolve the issue.
