We’re starting a closed Beta for a new Orders API fulfillment type: IN_STORE — for orders the buyer receives at the seller’s location at the time of sale (counter orders, table service, or grab-and-go). Building point-of-sale or on-site ordering experiences? We’d love to have you test it.

This is a restricted Beta with limited spots — not everyone who applies will be selected. We’ll review applications and email selected developers with next steps.

this is a much needed feature!
I’ve just built a custom order flow for our website, only to find this limitation.
i’ve applied to be a part of the Beta group, but didn’t receive a confirmation email. is that normal?
what are the pre-requisites to be a part of the Beta?

Great to hear! Correct, no confirmation emails have been sent, and there are no firm pre-reqs but we will be in touch with you via the email you provided in the next week or so.

We are a Square integration partner. Our application/client ID is sq0idp-gq87h-GBbGi79AslbxncsA.

We have recently started receiving a fulfillment type called SIMPLE for some orders, but we could not find this fulfillment type documented in the Orders API reference.

For example, we received the following fulfillment for order ID bvplnbqF4LJAqtgabboK6x6uOlUZY at location ID LMNPN2EEW6CS6:

Additionally, our integration currently receives order webhooks for Square Online orders. We would also like to receive webhooks for orders manually entered through the merchant’s Square POS, including phone orders.

Could you please confirm whether POS-created orders are included in the same order webhooks? If not, please advise whether there is any configuration, permission, or subscription required to receive them.

Regarding the SIMPLE fulfillment type: This is an internal value that is not part of the public Orders API contract. It may appear on certain in-store orders but is not documented and should not be relied upon in your integration. We recommend treating any unrecognized fulfillment type as informational only and handling it gracefully (e.g., ignoring it or logging it).

Regarding POS-created order webhooks: Orders created through Square POS (including manually entered orders) do generate order.created and order.updated webhook events. No additional configuration is required beyond an active webhook subscription with ORDERS_READ permission. If you are not receiving these events, please verify your subscription settings in the Developer Dashboard.
