IN_STORE fulfillment: Dashboard Orders list always shows "Receipt #" instead of the order name

Hi,

We create orders through the Orders API for restaurants (To Go dine-in), using the new IN_STORE fulfillment from the closed Beta announcement. It works in our sandbox app: the order is created, paid, and shows as “In store” in Dashboard → Orders → All orders.

The problem is the Name column. For every IN_STORE order it shows “Receipt #xxxx”, whatever name we send. We tried ticket_name, the recipient display_name, a customer on the recipient, order and payment, reference_id, note, metadata and source.name. A PICKUP order created the same way shows its recipient name correctly.

  1. Which field fills the Name column for an IN_STORE order, or is “Receipt #” expected?
  2. Where do ticket_name and the in-store recipient display_name appear (order detail, POS, printed ticket, KDS)?
  3. Is there a supported way to show a table label to staff on an IN_STORE order created by an API integration?

We are on Square-Version 2026-08-19. Happy to share our Application ID and the sandbox order IDs by DM.

Thank you.

Having IN_STORE fulfillments default to “Receipt #” while PICKUP formats correctly sounds like a Dashboard parsing bug in the Beta. Hopefully Square’s API team can clarify the intended schema field!

I think I was able to find a sandbox dashboard naming issue consistent with your results. Its legacy naming path doesn’t read in_store_details.recipient.display_name or use ticket_name, so a paid order can fall back to “Receipt #”. PICKUP recipient names are handled separately, explaining the difference. Resending those fields isn’t a confirmed fix.

Sandbox and production currently use different dashboard implementations where the production implementation reads in_store_details.recipient.display_name. I expect production to display that name when populated.

Could you please clarify whether this is happening in the production env?
