Google Content API vs Merchant API and possible impact on inventory data

Hello. I am experiencing an issue with pushing inventory levels to Google. I have inventory tracking enabled, inventory level listed, and Google Local enabled on each item. Google Merchant Center shows over 2.3k items missing local inventory data.

I also notice that there are two separate Content API listed as data sources, one for Free Listings, Shopping Ads, and Display Ads, and one for Free Local Listings and Local Inventory Ads. Most of our products are applicable to both, so it seems to have caused doubling in the Merchant Center account.

Additionally, I see a lot of warnings in the Merchant Center that we should have migrated from Content API to Merchant API, and I wondered if that might have anything to do with it.

I had a lot of trouble getting Square to recognize existing Google locations and Merchant account, so I wondered also if some sort of mapping might have gotten twisted in that whole process.

This forum is focused on Square’s APIs and SDKs but will try to point you in the right direction! For Square’s built-in Google listings, the Merchant API migration is handled by the platform, not something you need to implement yourself. The warning alone doesn’t confirm the cause of the missing inventory. Likewise, separate online and local sources don’t necessarily mean your items are duplicated.

Google’s missing inventory guidance recommends checking that product IDs and store codes match, so your location-mapping concern is worth investigating. Have you already contacted Square support?
