Fulfillment status update

How reliable is fulfilment status, for example in the case of coffeeshops. Do employees have to mark the order as in-progress or fulfilled? Or is it possible that they forget to do so? I am referring to this text from the guide
“The coffee shop staff then marks the order as in-progress in Order Manager in Square Point of Sale and begins to prepare the coffee. This updates the fulfillment state in the order, so the application can show the customer that the order is in-progress.
When the customer picks up the coffee, the staff marks the order as fulfilled.”

You could have anyone mark it including the customer who received their order. But it is only as reliable as the pers9n clicking the box/button

Hello,
Fulfillment status in coffee shops using Square Point of Sale relies on staff manually updating the order state—first to in-progress, then to fulfilled. Since this is a human-driven step, it’s possible (and not uncommon) for employees to forget or delay marking the status, especially during busy periods. As a result, the displayed fulfillment state may lag behind reality, leading to inaccurate customer notifications—e.g., an order showing as “in-progress” even after pickup, or “fulfilled” before preparation begins. Automation isn’t built in; reliability depends entirely on consistent staff discipline and proper training.
