Hello,
We use the Web Payments SDK for one-time donations. Apple Pay works well for us in Safari: payments.applePay(paymentRequest) resolves, tokenize() returns a token, and CreatePayment charges it. In Chrome on macOS, payments.applePay() rejects with “Apple Pay is only available on Safari”, so no Apple Pay button is shown.
Apple now supports Apple Pay on the web in third-party browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) through its Apple Pay JS SDK, which shows a code the buyer scans with an iPhone to approve the payment there. An Apple engineer described it here: “All that’s required is to import the latest Apple Pay JS SDK on your site, alongside your existing Apple Pay integration”, while noting that processors may not support it yet
As far as we can tell, the Web Payments SDK checks for window.ApplePaySession, which Apple’s JS SDK provides in those browsers.
Our questions:
- Does the Web Payments SDK support Apple Pay in third-party browsers today, if Apple’s Apple Pay JS SDK is loaded on the page before the Web Payments SDK?
- If so, is that a supported setup under the Web Payments SDK documentation and terms, and does Square’s merchant validation and payment processing accept payments made that way?
- If not yet, is support for Apple Pay in third-party browsers planned, and is there a timeline?
- Are there Content Security Policy entries Square recommends for it (for example?
We would rather follow a documented path than rely on undocumented behaviour, so any official guidance is very welcome.
Thank you.
