API Transactions Not Showing in Dashboard

Hello,

I have two questions regarding how transactions are displayed on the client side.

We send transactions entered by our customers in our software via the API. These transactions appear to be received correctly by Square, as they show up in the Transactions tab. However, we’ve noticed they are not visible in other views, specifically:

  • The cash balance
  • The Home / Dashboard page

Could you confirm whether this behavior is expected? If so, could you explain why these transactions are not reflected in those views, even though they are clearly visible in the Transactions tab?

  • I’m attaching two screenshots to illustrate the issue:
    Screenshot 1: A €10 payment made through our test account appears only in the Transactions tab, but not on the Home page or in the cash balance.
  • Screenshot 2: On my POS terminal, an €11.98 entry does not appear in the day’s cash balance for May 13th, even though the payment was successfully sent to Square via the API.

@Jeremy thanks for reaching out. Payments via the API should appear in your dashboard but they won’t appear in the cash drawer. I think there might be a limitation in the sandbox dashboard which is why you aren’t seeing them there unfortunately.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately we’re seeing the same behavior in production, not just sandbox payments made via the API show up in the dashboard but never appear in the cash drawer. So it doesn’t seem to be a sandbox-only limitation on our end.

The photo above is one of our client’s payment terminal, where the issue is happening live.

Could you confirm whether this is expected behavior for API payments, or if there’s a way to get them to reflect in the cash drawer? Happy to share specific payment IDs or logs if that helps you investigate.

Got it. Just to clarify, there are two separate things happening here:

  1. The API payment should show up in the dashboard. If you have an example of a payment that does not appear in the production dashboard, could you send us the payment ID and app ID?
  2. The API payment is not expected to appear in the cash drawer.
