Hi Square Developer Team,
We are using the official WooCommerce Square plugin for our WooCommerce website.
We are experiencing an unusual payment issue on some orders where the customer did not use or apply a Square Gift Card.
The customer’s payment is actually successfully processed by Square, but the WooCommerce order is subsequently changed from Processing to Failed because of a Gift Card-related error.
The WooCommerce order note shows:
Square Payment Failed ([BAD_REQUEST] Invalid order associated with giftcard activity. Order does not contain giftcard.)
We also see the following error in the logs:
retrieveGiftCardFromNonce → 404 NOT_FOUND
There is no giftcard associated with that nonce.
The customer did not select or apply a Gift Card during checkout, and the order does not contain any Gift Card. However, Gift Card activity appears to be associated with the order.
The payment itself is successful, but the subsequent Gift Card-related validation causes WooCommerce to mark the order as Failed.
This has only happened on a small number of orders. Previous orders using the same WooCommerce Square integration were processed successfully.
Could you please help us determine:
- Why is Gift Card activity being triggered when the customer did not use a Gift Card?
- Why is
retrieveGiftCardFromNoncebeing called for a normal payment? - Why does Square return
Invalid order associated with giftcard activitywhen the order does not contain a Gift Card? - Could this be related to the official WooCommerce Square plugin’s Gift Card, checkout, or session handling?
- Since the payment is successfully processed, what is causing the order to subsequently fail?
We are using the official WooCommerce Square plugin and have not implemented a custom Gift Card payment flow.
We can provide the affected order timestamps and relevant logs if required.
Thank you.
