Square Google Shopping Integration: Incorrect Variation Pricing and Inventory Synchronization
Hello Square Developer Team,
We are experiencing several issues with Square’s built-in Google Shopping integration and would appreciate assistance from the team responsible for maintaining this connection.
We are not using a custom API application. Our Google Shopping integration was configured directly through Square Dashboard → Channels → Online Listings on Google.
Square Customer Success and its advanced support team reviewed our concerns and directed us to this forum for technical assistance. We have an existing support case and can provide its reference number privately if needed.
Issue 1: Incorrect Product Variation Pricing
We operate a retail hobby and trading card store. Many of our products are configured as a single Square item with multiple variations.
For example, a trading card booster product has two variations:
-
Booster Pack: $4.99
-
Booster Box: $59.99
Both variations have their own prices and inventory quantities in Square.
Google Merchant Center receives two separate product listings with the correct respective prices.
However, the $4.99 booster pack listing is being disapproved because Google detects the $59.99 booster box price on the linked website.
The URL submitted by Square’s integration opens the shared Square Online product page without automatically selecting the advertised variation.
This appears to affect multiple products that use booster pack and booster box variations.
Question: Does Square’s native Google Shopping integration support variation-specific landing-page URLs that automatically select the corresponding variation?
If so, how can we ensure the correct variation is selected when customers arrive from Google Shopping?
Issue 2: Incorrect Inventory Availability
We have confirmed that both variations of our example product are sold out in Square.
Our Square Online website correctly disables these variations, preventing customers from purchasing unavailable products.
However, Google Merchant Center continues reporting both variations as In stock.
This creates inaccurate product availability information in Google’s shopping listings.
We have verified that the products are assigned to the appropriate Square Online and Google Shopping sales channels.
Question: Why might Square’s integration submit in_stock to Google when the corresponding variations cannot be purchased because they are sold out?
Is there a setting or synchronization process we should inspect?
Issue 3: Content API Product Expiration Warnings
Google Merchant Center also reports that several products submitted through the Content API are approaching expiration unless their information is refreshed.
We would like to determine whether these warnings indicate a synchronization issue with Square’s native Google Shopping connector.
Question: Is there a supported method to refresh products submitted through Square’s built-in Google integration without disconnecting and reconnecting the channel?
Troubleshooting Already Completed
We have confirmed the following:
-
Both product variations are configured correctly in Square.
-
Each variation has its correct price.
-
The Square Online website displays the proper price range.
-
Sold-out variations cannot be selected or purchased online.
-
The products are assigned to the appropriate sales channels.
-
Google Merchant Center receives separate product records for the pack and box.
-
The booster pack listing is disapproved because of a price mismatch.
-
Google reports incorrect availability for both sold-out variations.
-
We updated the shared product description in Square and confirmed that the new description successfully appeared in Google Merchant Center.
The successful description update indicates that at least part of the synchronization process is functioning, while variation landing-page behavior and inventory availability remain problematic.
Assistance Requested
We would appreciate clarification on the following:
-
Does Square’s native Google Shopping integration support direct links to individual product variations?
-
How does Square determine and submit variation-level availability to Google?
-
Are there known limitations or issues involving products with multiple variations and different prices?
-
Can we trigger a product and inventory refresh without disrupting our existing integration?
-
What is the recommended solution that preserves our existing Square item variations, inventory, and checkout functionality?
We would prefer not to separate booster packs and booster boxes into entirely different Square items unless absolutely necessary.
If account-specific identifiers, product IDs, or our existing support case number are required for investigation, we can provide those privately through an appropriate Square support channel.
Thank you for your assistance.
