Test events succeed, but live invoice changes produce no delivery logs

Hello Square Developer Support,

I’m connecting Square to Zapier so invoice changes can update existing Trello cards. Test webhook events reach Zapier successfully, but actual invoice activity does not appear in Square’s webhook logs.

Configuration

  • Environment: Production

  • API version: 2026-09-16

  • Webhook subscription: Enabled

  • Original event: invoice.updated

  • Destination: Webhooks by Zapier — Catch Hook

Troubleshooting completed

  1. Sent an invoice.updated test event from the Developer Console. Zapier received it, and Square recorded HTTP 200. The log identifies it as a test event.

  2. Created and sent a test invoice through Square.

  3. Added items to that invoice, saved it, and sent the update. No new webhook delivery appeared.

  4. Changed the invoice title and sent it again. Still no new delivery appeared.

  5. Temporarily added invoice.created to the subscription and created another test invoice draft. The logs still showed only the original sample event.

  6. Confirmed the subscription is enabled in Production, the notification URL matches Zapier’s Catch Hook URL, and invoice.updated is selected.

  7. Confirmed the Production location ID matches the location in the regular Square Dashboard.

  8. Used API Explorer with the same application selected and a Production access token to run List invoices. The request successfully returned a live invoice from the correct location.

  9. Rechecked Square’s webhook logs and used Find new records in Zapier after waiting several minutes.

Current result

The sample test succeeds, and Production API access works. However, there are no visible delivery attempts for live invoice creation or updates—not even failed deliveries.

Is there an additional authorization or configuration step required to receive webhook events for invoices created and edited through the Square Dashboard? How can I determine why live events are not appearing in the delivery logs?

Thank you.

I tried replicating the scenario and was able to test invoice.created and invoice.updated webhooks successfully.

Creating a draft triggers invoice.created. invoice.updated is created for changes to an existing invoice, such as its title or payment schedule.

Have you checked to make sure that the webhook subscriptions you made were indeed configured in production && you are checking the production webhook logs?

If you are still experiencing the issue, please you share one invoice ID and the timestamp/timezone of a saved title change so that we can investigate further.

Hi jaeha,

Thanks for looking into this. I was finally able to figure out what was causing the issue.

The webhook was set up correctly in Square under Production, but I noticed in the webhook logs that the events were returning a 404 error.

It turns out my Zapier workflow was still in draft mode and hadn’t been published. Once I finished setting it up and published it, the webhook started returning 200 responses.

I tested it by making changes to an existing invoice, including adding items and changing the due date. Everything is now working, and the changes are automatically updating the corresponding Trello card.

Thanks again for your help!

No problem at all. Happy to help!
