What’s the pay with Cash App option? Like is there some button system somewhere doing this?
The pay with Cash App allows your customers to complete their payments on your Square POS or Square Online site using Cash App. Paying with Cash App simplifies in-person contactless transactions at your POS, providing your customers an alternative payment method to complete their purchases and helping your business avoid the need to process card-not-present transactions. During the checkout process at your POS, you can choose Cash App Pay as the customer’s payment method to generate a unique QR code on your device screen. They then scan the code from their mobile device using Cash App to make their payment.
Online payments with Cash App are also simplified. Customers on the desktop version of your Square Online site will scan a QR code in the same way they would at your Square POS. If your customer is buying from your mobile site and has Cash App installed, they’ll simply tap a Cash App button during checkout to start paying.
At this time Cash App Pay is currently available for businesses processing payments on Square Register, Square Stand, Square Terminal, Square Online, Square Appointments and the Square Point of Sale app for iOS and Android devices. Paying with Cash App is not available through Square for Restaurants, Square for Retail, or Square Invoices at this time. 
I represent a non-profit who makes direct-cash payments to recipients as part of a number of community-building and social justice programs we run.
We collect hundreds of Cashtags every week, validate the Cashtag (manually, by navigating to https://cash.app/{Cashtag} in our browsers), then issue payments.
We’ve literally made tens-of-thousands of payments (worth millions of $) through CashApp this way, over the past two years.
Is there an API we can use to automate that process?

At this time there isn’t Cash APIs that you could use to automate this process with. We’re constantly working to improve our features based on feedback like this, so I’ll be sure to share your request to the API product team.
Bryan, this API issue needs priority. Businesses want to make more payments with Cashapp using the API, we’re all trying to find ways around this with our own “solutions,” there’s money being left on the table for you guys. Please escalate this issue as more and more devs are asking for this. Square could bring in so much more business if sending/receiving payments via Cashapp user ID or $cashtag was available.

We created emailreceipts.io to extract Cash App and other receipts from your emails and send you a webhook to any URL. Currently, it is being used by thousands of merchants in our Cash App extension on WordPress. We also have Cash App Pay for Square merchants.
It obvious they are ignoring the requests of several users about this feature. I would be willing to bet it will never be available. The leading competitor “Vemno”(reverse the “n” and the “m” for the correct spelling) already has this available using the payouts api. It’s been there for years. Square is never gonna allow businesses to have this feature.
