Recap: Square Unboxed 2024
Top highlight's from this year's event
On June 5, we gathered in Oakland with over 120 partners and Squares for our annual Square Unboxed event. We had plenty of reasons to celebrate our work together. Here are the key takeaways:
Partnerships and International Lead Vijay Vachani shared the state of the Square platform, including which trends and investment areas Square is focused on in 2024, as well as the progress we’ve made on partner programs over the last year.
Chief Product Officer Saumil Mehta touched on the core principles of Square, then he detailed the features and products that set us apart.
We tuned in for a live Q&A session with Head of Block and CEO of Square Jack Dorsey, who highlighted the importance of our partner and developer community, his predictions for bitcoin and AI, and how he sees and approaches international market growth.
We chatted with seller CAMO Eats and partner 7shifts about their experience in the food and beverage space and how Square has helped them achieve success. Then we spent the afternoon previewing our core platform's product roadmap, deep-diving into how partners can accelerate sales with Square, and talking shop with our sales leadership team.
We also made some big announcements:
1. Mobile Payments SDK beta (US)
Mobile Payments SDK is the newest iteration of the Reader SDK, our flagship payment product for iOS and Android-native mobile apps. Providing you with new functionality, improved reliability, and deeper integrations with the Square ecosystem, the Mobile Payments SDK now makes it even more seamless for developers to take PCI-compliant in-person payments with Square.
2. Self-publish to the Square App Marketplace
We’ve opened up and streamlined the process of submitting and publishing an app to the Square App Marketplace. Now anyone who has an idea for an app or integration that helps Square sellers run their businesses more effectively can get started today, and they manage the full process from within the Developer Dashboard.
3. New referral partner bounty program
With our new referral partner program, all partners in our ecosystem can be eligible to earn at least $1000 for every qualifying referral that processes $250K+ annually with Square when that lead becomes active within 30 days of onboarding with us.
4. Square Partner Offers directory
The Square Partner Offers directory is our first publicly available site for referral partners. Now, Square sellers can access exclusive offers and discounts on products and services from partners that help them streamline business activities outside of Square. Product offerings include legal services, inventory suppliers, IT, and social media. Partners will have a dedicated listing page to increase discoverability and promote their product or service to Square sellers.
5. App Subscriptions beta
App Subscriptions is a new way for App Marketplace developers to monetize their solutions. It provides infrastructure and tooling to manage subscription plans and makes it easier than ever to onboard new customers. With App Subscriptions, Square sellers can use their payment methods on file to sign up for free trials and paid plans, streamlining the seller’s experience to improve sign-up volume.
6. Events API
The Events API is a pull-based alternative to webhooks. The Events API endpoint returns a list of up to 28 days worth of events in a search-style endpoint, so developers can stay up to date with events on their platform without solely relying on webhooks.
