Recap: Square Unboxed 2021

We announced two new ways to integrate with Square, brought a Beta API to General Availability, and kicked off a hackathon. And now we’re here to recap it for you.

We hosted our fifth annual developer and partner conference on May 13. It was so energizing to connect with our community. We all got a chance to hear from Square platform leadership, participate in demos and workshops, learn from developers who have built unique commerce experiences with Square APIs, overhear a conversation between Jack Dorsey and Jim McKelvey, and be thoroughly entertained by Youtube star Simone Giertz.

We also made some big announcements:

• We launched an Early Access Program for Snippets API. Snippets API enables developers to create add-ons for Square Online sites, our eCommerce software, that helps sellers create engaging experiences to drive customer loyalty and higher conversion rates. It’s also the first API we’ve released that lets developers directly modify a Square product!

• We also announced the General Availability of Web Payments SDK, a new JavaScript SDK that replaces SqPaymentForm for a highly responsive, customizable online payment experience. The SDK supports multiple payment methods, including ACH bank payments – new in Beta starting today.

• Loyalty API is now generally available. Loyalty API enables developers to extend the easy and intuitive Square Loyalty rewards program to their own apps, offering a seamless omnichannel loyalty experience for sellers.

• We also launched API Logs in Beta, which will provide Square developers better integration visibility and simplify change management.

• Finally, after seeing such incredible submissions last year, we’re hosting our second-ever Hackathon and giving out $60k in prizes. You can use any Square API or SDK to build an application for sellers, but if you use Terminal API, Web Payments SDK, or Snippets API you’ll qualify for special prizes.
