The “Channel” field in the Seller Dashboard represents the source from which the order was created. For example, if an order was created through your online store, the channel might display as “Online Store”.

You cannot directly change this field as it is automatically set by Square based on where the order originated. If you want to change the channel, you would need to create the order through a different source. For example, if you want the channel to display as “Point of Sale”, you would need to create the order through your Square Point of Sale system.

There isn’t an API to change an orders source at this time. Also I’m wondering what would the use case be for changing an order source. Wouldn’t you want sellers to see where orders originated from? 🙂

i only want to know what’s the relation between app name and source? i found source = app name sometimes, if i change the app name, what’s the change about source?

The `source` will be the app name if not set when creating the order. If you change the app name then any future order will have that as the `source`. 🙂

The Channel is the name of the app that created and paid for the order that’s shown in the Dashboard. 🙂

client application id = sq0idp-bnhgEJGkEKdUJBzneIlOvQ. all are in prod environment. for example, order id = njEzphctsQ9cZzNfnOnZwntFhB9YY, i have changed the client app name to UmeTea Kiosk(UAT), but the order’s channel is still Kiosk in the square dashboard.

I checked the `order_id` that you provided and it was created by `UmeTea Kiosk(UAT)`. Also I checked the account and you still have an application `UmeTea Kiosk(UAT)`.

If you want it to show under a different name the app that creates the order will show in the channel on the Dashboard and the Kiosk app will need to be the app that creates the order. 🙂

I can confirm that there is some sort of issue with this, at least for me. I’ve changed the app name and restarted my backend server, yet the orders keep getting created with the channel equal to my old app name. I even created new oauth tokens since my app places orders on behalf of another merchant account. Is there something else I need to do to get the change to actually “take” given that the channel is now set to a name that no longer exists anywhere I can see? I am using the Python library if that is relevant.
