Hi all.

We’re building a consumer web and mobile app in the U.S. and are looking at the Order by Cash App MCP server for pickup orders at Square restaurants. Our app would call it from our own backend, not through ChatGPT or Claude.

Before we build, we’d like to confirm a few things:

**Access and terms**

1. May a third-party app use this server in production for commercial use? If so, which terms apply (the Developer Terms of Service, the Developer Integration and Marketing Agreement, or something else)? 2. Does an app need to register, be allowlisted or use credentials? Are there rate limits?
3. Is there a sandbox or test mode for building carts and completing checkout without real orders?

**Checkout**

4. Does the person paying need a Cash App account, or can they pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay?
5. Can the pickup name be set when the cart is created, or entered at checkout, when it differs from the payer’s?
6. Can items be changed at checkout, or is the cart fixed once it’s created?

**After the order**

7. Is there a way for the app to learn that an order was paid, is ready or was picked up, such as an order ID, a status tool or a webhook? 8. Who handles refunds and cancellations: the seller through Square, or Cash App?

**Fees and data**

9. May an app charge its own users a separate fee for its service? 10. Is there a referral or partner program for apps that send orders to Square sellers? 11. May an app store or cache restaurant and menu results, and are there attribution or display requirements? 12. Which sellers are included (all U.S. Square Online sellers, or select areas), and how does a seller opt in or out?

**Going forward**

12. Is this server the recommended path for third-party apps, or should we plan on the food ordering extension of the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP)? Is there a timeline for that?

Thanks!

Hi @patjg85 - We’re open to exploring integrations like the one you’ve described.

For a commercial app calling the server from its own backend, we recommend connecting with the Agentic Commerce team before moving into production. You can reach the team at [agentic-commerce-eng@squareup.com](mailto:agentic-commerce-eng@squareup.com). The [Cash App MCP documentation](https://goose-docs.ai/docs/mcp/cash-app-mcp/) is also a useful starting point while you explore.
