# Terminal API cannot show signature page

Hi,  
I use terminal api create terminal checkout with /v2/terminals/checkouts. I set collect\_signature is true. but signature page not show. The payload data is:

Did you tap or dip the card when taking the payment. If you tapped the card it won’t ask for a signature. Otherwise I tested your request with a dip payment and it asked for a signature as expected. 🙂

Matthew Hamlin | Senior Account Executive wrote to us:

> For checkouts created through the Terminal API, there is a `collect_signature` option in the `device_options` for a checkout. When set to `true`, Terminal will always display a signature screen as part of that payment flow.

When we explained, we are already doing that with mixed results. Then he directed us to Contact Developer Success, which in turn directed us to this page.

We are following this, but the Terminals do not always display a signature screen. What are we missing?

Curious, what is the reason for collecting a signature? 🙂
